General Ultrasounds

An abdominal ultrasound is an exam specifically meant to look at the organs inside the abdomen and help doctors diagnose any possible issues. This exam looks at the liver, gallbladder, spleen, limited pancreas, and kidneys.

The preparation for this exam is to fast 8 hours prior to your appointment. 

A kidney and bladder ultrasound checks your kidneys, ureters, and urinary bladder. The exam analyzes the size, location, the shape of the kidneys and structures around it, and identifies any possible issues that may be found. 

The preparation for this exam is to arrive to your appointment with a full bladder.

A thyroid ultrasound is ordered if a thyroid test came back abnormal or if your doctor feels a growth on your thyroid. The exam helps diagnose abnormalities such as, cysts, nodules, or tumors.

There is no special preparation for a thyroid ultrasound. 

A bilateral breast ultrasound is ordered to analyze if there are any possible solid or cystic masses in the breast. This exam helps doctors determine if the cyst is fluid or a tumor. 

There is no special preparation for a bilateral breast ultrasound. 

A transabdominal pelvic ultrasound is a birds eye view that checks the organs inside your pelvis such as: the cervix, ovaries, uterus, vagina, and bladder. This exam identifies any possible issues that may be found in your pelvic region. 

The preparation for this exam is to drink 32 ounces of water one hour prior to your appointment and come in with a full bladder.

A transvaginal ultrasound is a high resolution and more detailed exam that specifically looks at the female reproductive organs such as: the uterus, ovaries, cervix, and the vagina. This exam involves having the technician inserting a probe 2-3 inches into your vaginal canal. 

There is no special preparation for a transvaginal ultrasound.
